Tokyo Debunker (Part 2)
Alright, so there’s been a lot of development for me over the past month as I’ve played TKDB. And it’s all fun and good, save the chats. (More a personal preference, not an actual issue. It’s been a fascinating social experiment getting to interact with youth and younger young adults that haven’t been around for several years, but it’s soooo distracting! Oh well.)
So where to begin? Well I guess we’ll start with now I have 5 SSRs! Buuuut I’m technically no longer exclusively F2P… (They got me, and I gave into the temptation… 🙈) However, I really don’t see a further need to put more money into the game, because I have my 3 favorite ghouls in SSRs. My long term strategy here is to attempt to fully waken my current SSRs as they cycle through, and then maybe snag an interesting one here and there. I will say this though, as much as I want to try it out, I am nervous to pull on the basic summons page now…
Why you may ask? Well, two things. One, I kind of don’t want anymore random SSRs at the moment. I was gifted Subaru when I summoning Rui (actually got 2 SSRs in the same 10 summon pull. 🙃) And two, now all my resources are spread even more thin, since I’m trying to level up 5 SSRs at once AND finish feeding the littles I was working on prior to having any SSRs. So yeah, I went from zero SSRs to 5 in one month, and for a (mostly) F2P it is a tad challenging to float at least from a timing perspective. So here are my 5:
So, yes as shown, for three of them I have the corresponding warding card for them with the link bonus. But with the last two, I don’t because those I summoned “randomly.” My second Haku (picture at the end), was actually part of the reason why I put money into the game. 😅 So as a new player, they offer you a guarantee SSR from one house if you put $42 into the game. And coupled with this recurring crystal ball event where you get up to 80 percent of diamonds back in addition to what you buy, I decided to try my luck on getting an guaranteed SSR from Haiku’s house Hotarubi. Totally anticipated getting Zenji or another Subaru, but I got Haku! And it was the other one I wanted, that I wasn’t able to get back in June. The odds have certainly been in my favor when it comes to summoning SSRs on Limited-Time cards.
I do think there’s a trick here though. I believe if you have enough diamonds (or dias for short in game) to summon 50 times (or 5 10 summon pulls in a row) you have a higher probably of summoning the special cards. The likelihood also increasing once you’ve obtained the advertised cards too. All this from my experience anyway. I read somewhere that one had a higher percentage of pulling an SSR on the basic summons, but the limited-time cards actually show a higher percentage of obtaining the limited-time card? Obviously, I haven’t found this basic summons thing to be true, since I’ve only pulled on the limited-time cards. So I’m not sure why that is floating around out there? I guess I could experiment on the basic summons and see what happens for me, yeah? Anyway!
Moving along to my adventures in figuring out how this game works in terms of strategizing team building, I think I’ve made some decent progress. I certainly understand the whole debuffing effect a lot more after a month of playing. So TKDB has three levels of cards: Rs, SRs, and SSRs. The Rs yield a 30% debuff, SRs 60%, and SSR 100%. Soooo, there’s a 30% chance that your Rs will activate their special ability and affect the enemy they’re attacking. And so on and so forth respectively. Which presents an interesting challenge when making up your squads/teams, in my opinion, since you sort want to take advantage of those chances while balancing out your various card elements and skills. So here’s my current main line up making full use of what I’ve just said:
And it’s certainly something I’m taking into consideration going forward when summoning SSRs. I really want one with a Life Flip and maybe another dream hunt card. But I have been torn with playing favorites and wanting good looking cards… 😅 Some of the artwork is just not appealing to me, you know?
And yes, I joined a guild, because every seasoned mobile player knows that joining a guild gives you more in game rewards— I mean friends!! 😆😜 I did join a “more chill” guild because I AM NOT going LOP here! (And well honestly because there’s no quick rank events in TKDB, it makes the game play just so much more relaxing! 😌) No passive aggressive competition fever over here for me! Though I do want to stay on my A game for my guildies. Or should I say my fellow bees? 🐝 Our guild name is BeeButts, and we’ve taken guild loyalty to the next level. Hive or die! 😜 And since I’m well acquainted with running guilds in LOP, active and engaged players is really all that matters at the end of the day! 😂
And since we’re on the topic of guilds, contrary to LOP, your guild has two activities a day for you to participate in: Nightmare Raids and Game of Claws.
Nightmare Raids you join other server players in a room and defeat an enemy for items. You get three keys for three victories. Pretty simple and quick depending on the room you join. And some rooms offer better rewards than others so you can kind of choose your poison based on what you need. Game of Claws (or GOC) is basically guild wars in LOP, but live. Every night you either play offense or defense on a town/kingdom and get rewards for it. Aside from the Arena, it’s really the one place you get to see your ghouls teams shine. And it can be very entertaining to watch, so grab your popcorn!🍿
Honestly, I’m surprised how quickly you can level up your account in TKDB relative to LOP. I mean the game does limit your resource income as the game goes on with the cursed case wall. (Like a paywall, but it has to do with your case progression in the game.) Not being able to read the story or upgrade the classrooms for days on end does get REALLY painful at times. But it does allow me time to read other books or go back to LOP.
Speaking of, I also really like how “little” there is to do in the game. 😆 I feel like LOP has mastered the nonstop flow of mini games/events that require signing on and updating more than is necessary, and you know after five years of playing it’s like, can we tone it down a notch? TKDB is a fairly new game, so it will be interesting to see how it evolves. Like if they add ads, or start doing different quick events that require players to sign on more/spend more money. 🤑 me though, I’m mostly interested in the story for my own writing purposes, so as long as that keeps me engaged, I’m in!
Whelp, that’s it for now! See you next month for whatever I feel like talking about then. 🤪
