So I decided to go for Iron Teeth this last round, and I got it! 🥳
Now that I have Shangguan Wan’er from CS, I thought it might be fun to go for Iron Teeth at least once. My main rationale being that I hate using pursuit tokens during CS Debate. You have to when your trying to stay in the top 20, but now that I’m semi retired from the CS debate mayhem, I thought I’d burn through some of those tokens.
My main strategy for claiming the title was using an inactive with low power and a high partner count that I knew my top four partners could clear out. I only used four challenge letters during this round, with a a similar rationale. There were also gimmicks that required using challenge letters so I was like “why not?” And of course Zongzi, lots of Zongzi. (For those who don’t think it matters, it really does make a huge difference.)
And thanks to the Ministry of Works component in the guild, I’ve opened up three more party invitation slots. So I was able to get additional seven debates in a day, on top of the daily four and four pursuits.
I was fortunate there was no rush at the very end. I only did an extra pursuit with my top partner as a buffer during the last five minutes. Finished with over 3600 points. It wasn’t too competitive this round either on my local server. I maintained first for just about the entire duration of the event, except for when I was sleeping through the night.
But as with any debate, it pays to know your partners and your enemies. Being familiar with which partners take out more a particular opponent and which of your opponents partners to avoid helps in amassing more points. And as I hinted at above, use your challenge letters and pursuit tokens wisely. Challenge opponents who are less powerful than you under the “view more” list. Pursue inactives with less power and more partners than you. And don’t forget to eat Zongzi to get double the points on those!
Oh and before I forget, use the “help” section once you have 31 partners. You can hide your weakest partners for 30 days at a time, and get an additional HP boost from them. Trust me, it REALLY deters others from pursuing you. Especially during CS debate. I know from experience. I spend a pretty ingot to keep my available partners down at 30, but it’s worth it to me. (And in part why I’m wary of adding more partners to my stack in the future. 🫢)
