Mid-Autumn Festival: Nailed It!

To say I failed at this before I even started is a vast understatement.

I was super excited to kick off my LOP recipe series, where I make most, if not all, of the various recipes in the game and review them. And since it’s the Mid-Autumn Festival, I thought it would be perfect to start with mooncakes. I found a recipe for the lotus seed paste type that didn’t seem too involved, as there are only so many things one can accomplish with two boys under the age of three running about the house. My husband even offered to help me out! So we planned it out, ordered the items we needed, and I made a trip to our local Asian market to get the final ingredients. All was going well, until Thursday before...

I’m not sure if my complex’s asphalt being repaved had anything to do with it, but the Amazon shipment that contained both the molds and lye water I needed to make the mooncakes got “lost.” 😩 I’m still hoping they show up, mind you, but my plans for making the mooncakes over the weekend were ruined. To make up for it, I decided to do a couple of things.

One, I scoured the county for duck breast, a surprisingly difficult task in Orange County at this time of year, and struck gold at a meat shop I didn’t even know existed. Definitely adding it to my list of stores to frequent in the future. Now if you’re wondering why I was looking for duck, according to ye olde internet, duck and pumpkin are other traditional foods consumed during the festival. Okay, so I’m not making any traditional dishes with my duck and pumpkin, but I did find a duck and pumpkin bowl that looked pretty appetizing to both me and my husband. Getting creative while still keeping in the spirit of things.

And two, what better way to make up for not being able to make mooncakes in real life than by making them in LOP! 🤣 Yes, I topped up on the P2P, and made enough mooncakes to acquire the recipe, not that I’ve purchased it with the points yet. I’m still debating whether I want it or not.

As previously noted in another post, momentum has become my new focus, but the ingredients needed for the in game mooncake recipe are also used in the rice ball soup and zongzi recipes. Both of which I’m currently having a difficult time pumping out as much as I’d like already. To add another to the mix, and which, well let’s face it, doesn’t yield as great a benefit as the rice ball soup and zongzi, kind of has me pumping the breaks on the acquiring it, on both accounts.

In the end, I decided to not get the mooncake recipe on either account. I didn’t want to drop the ingots for it on the P2P, and couldn’t acquire enough points after buying the title on the F2P, in order to place in the top 10 for Dom after the merge. 😅 I figure if I truly regret this decision, I may pick up the mooncake recipe when the anniversary event rolls around in March, or whenever they offer the recipe again.

Until next time!
